Dorothy Davis Jefferson

Dorothy “Dot” Davis Jefferson died on September 19, 2015, at Bayleigh Chase. She was 97. Born on August 13, 1918, in Easton, MD, she was the daughter of the late Edgar O. and Bernice Donoho Davis. Dot graduated from Easton High School in 1935. During World War II, she was a member of the Aircraft Warning System. She was a day spotter and recorder. Dot was a very active member of her church. She was a charter member of St. Mark’s United Methodist Church in Easton. With a young family, she enjoyed being an Elks Club Little League Volunteer, Cub Scout Den Mother, and Brownie Scout Leader. She was employed at the Easton Steel Company as a bookkeeper until her retirement. In retirement she enjoyed traveling with her husband to many countries and throughout the United States. Some of the places she visited included Egypt, Bethlehem, Italy, Switzerland, France, England, Scotland and Ireland. In the U.S., travels included Alaska, Hawaii, and many National Parks. Dot was very involved and enjoyed community volunteerism. She was on the Board of Directors at the St. Mark’s Village. She was a Member Emeritus of the Union Dorcas Society of Easton. Dot spent thousands of hours and made valuable contributions to the Memorial Hospital as a volunteer. She was a very active member of the Memorial Hospital of Easton Auxiliary, serving in many capacities over the years. Dot is survived by her children, C. Edmond Morris, III, and wife Sheron, of Southport, NC, and Carolyn Morris Cox and husband, Dr. Robert Cox of Wilmington, DE; grandchildren, Katherine Morris Zimerly and Susan Morris of Baltimore, MD, and Dr. Christopher Cox of Wilmington, DE, and Stephanie Cox Shaller of Boston, MA; and five great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Elizabeth Davis Rasnic, her first husband, Charles Edmond Morris, Jr., who died in 1974; and her second husband, Edwin R. Jefferson, who died in 1992. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, September 26, 2015, at 11 a.m. at St. Mark’s United Methodist Church in Easton. A reception will follow for family and friends at Bayleigh Chase Auditorium, 501 Dutchmans Lane, Easton. Dot loved her family and many friends. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were very special in her eyes. Her loving and caring persona will be greatly missed. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the St. Mark’s United Methodist Church, Needy Fund, 100 Peachblossom Rd., Easton, MD 21601.
