Dorothy A. Hiner

Dorothy (fondly known as Dottie) Agnes Hiner passed away on Sunday, October 30, 2022, at the age of 92 at Bayleigh Chase in Easton, MD. Born on July 10, 1930, in Baltimore County, MD, she was the daughter of the late August J. and Alice Gibson Gamble. She attended St. Joseph’s Grade School and graduated in 1948 from Towson Catholic High School. On May 20, 1950, she married the love of her life, Lawrence E. Hiner, Jr., and they resided in Timonium until 1971 when Larry’s work brought them to the Easton, MD. They were married for 61 years until Larry’s death in 2012. Dottie excelled in secretarial and bookkeeping skills and was employed by Bendix-Friez Instruments and Cooper’s Camera Mart and Harry B. Cooper. She also worked for Daiger Corp, Chesapeake Wildlife Heritage, P. C. Secretarial, and managed the books for Larry’s drafting business. In her later years, she provided personal bookkeeping work for various clients in their homes. She volunteered for the United Fund, Festival of Trees, American Cancer Society, American Heart Association, and the Waterfowl Festival in Easton of which she was most proud for fifty consecutive years of service from the inception of the event. Dottie easily made friends wherever she lived and enjoyed entertaining neighbors, friends and family. She will be remembered for always having a camera in her hand or purse and was ruthless when taking photos. In her later years, she could be found perched on a stool in Walgreens getting her photos printed to send to her friends and family. She was a long-term parishioner of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Easton, MD, and was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary in Timonium, MD. Dottie is survived by her sons, Lawrence Hiner, III (Cherie) of Kyle, TX, and Michael Hiner (Terri) of Easton, MD; six grandchildren, Lawrence IV, Michael Anne, Christian, Justin, Kyle, and Travis; a bonus grandson Corey; and twelve great-grandchildren all of whom were her pride and joy. She is also survived by a sister, Marge Sevier, several nieces and nephews, whom she loved dearly, and many special friends and neighbors. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Larry, and her sisters, Elizabeth, Lillian, Helen, and Nancy, and her brothers, Francis and August, Jr. The family wishes to thank the many caregivers at Bayleigh Chase who tended to her every need. A visitation will be held on Sunday, November 6, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Fellows, Helfenbein and Newnam Funeral Home in Easton, MD, with a Vigil Service starting at 3 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, November 7, at 11 a.m. at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Easton, MD, with a graveside service and interment the following day on Tuesday, November 8, at 11 a.m. at New Cathedral Cemetery in Baltimore, MD, where she will be reunited with Larry in their eternal rest.
