Doris A. Hitch

Doris A. Hitch of Catonsville, MD died Friday August 26, 2005 at her residence in Catonsville, MD. She was 90. Born on December 26, 1914 in Lancaster, PA, she was the daughter of the late, Harold Dean and Irene Crumbling. Doris graduated as a Registered Nurse from Lancaster General Hospital School of Nursing in 1936. After graduating, she moved to Baltimore and worked as Head Nurse at John Hopkins Hospital. In 1940, Doris married Grover Hitch and left John Hopkins Hospital in 1942. She and her husband moved to Glen Burnie in 1952 and she went to work as an office nurse for Dr. B.L. Jones. Doris later worked as an Anne Arundel Public Health Nurse. She retired in 1966 and in 1970, moved to Bennett Point where she lived until she moved five years ago to Catonsville with her daughter. Doris was a member of Women of the Moose, Bay Country Lodge, Kent Island Yacht Club Auxiliary, La FEMMES of the 40/8, National Association of Retired Federal Employees, and the Lancaster General Hospital Alumni Association. She was an avid knitter of afghans and sweaters, and spent time doing arts and crafts. Doris is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, D. Audrey and Andrew Hiebler of Catonsville, MD; two grandchildren Tracey Lynn Dearborn and her husband, Jeffrey of Severna Park, MD and Thomas Andrew Hiebler and his wife, Joanna of Marriottsville, MD. She was cherished by her four great grandchildren, Taylor Victoria and Trevor Jeffrey Dearborn, Benjamin Thomas and Ryan Hiebler. She was predeceased by her husband Grover Hitch in 1984, and her brother Gerald C. Dean. Family and friends may visit from 5-8pm on Tuesday August 30, 2005 and 10-11AM Wednesday August 31, 2005 at Fellows, Helfenbein and Newnam Funeral Home, P.A. Chester, MD where services will be held at 11AM on Wednesday. Interment will be held at Maryland State Veteran Cemetery at Hurlock, Hurlock, MD. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in her name to Emmanuel Lutheran Church Radio Fund, 929 Ingleside Avenue, Baltimore, MD 21228 or Chesapeake Bay Environmental Center, Wildfowl Trust of North America, 600 Discovery Lane, Grasonville, MD 21638.
