Donald Wayne Anderson “Sonny” of Stevensville, MD a local businessman, died on Wednesday, February 3, 2010 at his home in Kent Island Estates. He was 81 years old. Born March 1, 1928 in Michigan City, Indiana, he was the son of Floyd A. Anderson and Ruby Durf Woodfin and was raised in Seabrook, MD. He graduated in 1945 from Bladensburg High School and then enlisted in the United States Navy where he received his appointment as Lieutenant JG. In 1952, he graduated from the University of Maryland, College of Business. His wife of 58 years, Frances Corinne Williams, lives at Mink Hill Nursing Home in Grasonville. Their anniversary was February 2. Donald moved to Stevensville in 1973 with his family. He then retired from GEICO Insurance as Vice-President of Marketing. He owned and operated Anderson Real Estate with his son, Gary, where they have provided housing for over 30 years in Queen Anne’s County. Mr. Anderson was the president of the Suburban Lions Club, the Queen Anne’s County Board of Realtors, the Kent Island Estates Roads and several PTA’s. He was a member of the Kent Island Elks #2576, the Kent Island American Legion Post 278, the Kent Island Yacht Club, Romancoke on the Bay and the Bay Country Moose#831. He is survived by his wife, Frances C. Anderson; one daughter, Alanna Lynn Giebler and her husband, Don, of Stevensville; three sons, Donald Wayne Anderson, Jr. and his wife, Debbie, of Franklin, TN, Robert Lawrence Anderson and his wife, Mary, of Stevensville, and Gary David Anderson and his wife, Katherine, of Queenstown; eleven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two sisters, Dolores Elaine Baxter of Stevensville and Barbara Jean Seward of Stevensville. Friends and family may call on Friday, February 5, 2010 from 10 am to 12 noon at Fellows, Helfenbein & Newnam Funeral Home, P.A., 106 Shamrock Road, Chester, MD. A funeral service will be held at 12:00 noon with burial following at Stevensville Cemetery.
