Danny Ray Brown Sr.

Danny Ray Brown, Sr., born on October 17, 1952, in Baltimore, Maryland, passed away peacefully at his home on December 13, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. Affectionately known as “Dude,” Danny was truly a jack of all trades. Over the years, he worked as a waterman, owned a furniture store, and painted alongside his dear friend, Jimmy Melvin. In 1991, Danny found his true home as the General Manager of Fisherman’s Crab Deck and Seafood Market. There, he worked side by side with his wife and extended Schulz family for more than 30 years. Locals and travelers alike were drawn to the market not only for the food, but for Danny himself. He made friends everywhere he went, and many returned time and again just to see him. Once you met Danny, you had a friend for life. He was deeply loved and will be profoundly missed. Danny’s favorite pastimes included spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, caring for his chickens and ducks, and enjoying the companionship of his beloved dog, Jasper, who was by his side for 15 years. Danny married the love of his life, Mary Lee Brown, on September 16, 1973. Together they shared 52 years of marriage filled with love, laughter, and family before his passing. He is survived by his devoted wife, Mary Lee Brown; his son, Danny Ray Brown, Jr., and daughter-in-law, Tina Marie Brown; his daughter, Lisa Marie Brown, and her partner, Kevin Chaney; and his beloved son-in-law, Michael Ruth. He was a proud grandfather to Cassidy Belle Ruth (Josh), Camryn Lee Ruth, Danny Ray Brown III (“Trey”), Taylor Marie Brown, and Alexa “Lexi” Lynn Brown, and a cherished great-grandfather to Hayes Troy Townsend. Danny is also survived by his sister, Penny Russell; his sisters-in-law, Lorraine Parkerson (Greg) and Lauren Pfisterer (Jim); along with many extended family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Otis Amos Brown and Mary Belle Brown. his grandson, Coleman Brown; his brothers, Otis “Buddy” Brown, Jr., Michael Brown, and Joseph Brown; his sister, Kay Sprague; his brother-in-law, Robert Russell; and his parents-in-law, Lawrence and Leatrice Seling. A memorial service will be held on Friday December 19th at 1pm. Friends and family are welcome to gather from 11-1 at Fellows Helfenbein and Newnam Funeral Home in Chester, 106 Shamrock Road Chester MD 21619. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a favorite charity in Danny’s memory.
