Daniel Pritchett

Daniel F. Pritchett died on Tuesday, August 21, 2018, at Talbot Hospice House. He was 73. Dan was born on February 21, 1945, in Greensboro, MD, to the late Charles and Naomi (Cooper) Pritchett. Living in a farming area, he worked on farms picking tomatoes and pitching hay. Dan would get where he needed to go on his bicycle – sometimes with his pet rooster riding on the handle bars. One winter when milk was not being delivered to homes, he showed business sense early by buying the milk and delivering it himself. Dan graduated from Easton High School, Class of “63.” He was a member of the band and played many sports, including, soccer, baseball, track, wrestling, and football. After graduation, he attended Shepherd College (University), majoring in Business and Math. He began working for C. Albert Matthews, Inc. as a summer job. Dan started working on a truck as a helper, became an expert mechanic, and eventually bought the company. Dan was involved in his community, not only as a businessman, but as Lay Leader at St. Mark’s United Methodist Church, Past Master of Coats Lodge #102, also a trustee of the Lodge and Leader of the General Canvas of The United Fund of Talbot County. As a Little/Senior League Coach, Dan encouraged his players to remember those volunteers who made it possible for them to play by volunteering themselves. His sons took his words to heart as adults – Albert coaching baseball and John coaching soccer. Preceded in death by his parents and brother Charles, Dan is survived by his wife, Helen (Matthews), whom he married in 1966; their sons, Albert and his wife Jennifer, and their children: Austin, Shaw, Claire, and Finnley; John and his wife Rachel, and their children, McKenna, Ian, and Reagan; niece, Kathryn Schneider, daughter of his brother Charles; sister-in-law, Sara M. Crowder, and her daughters, Virginia McLaughlin and Catherine Patrick. Dan loved us all, but there was a special place in his heart for those wonderful “Grands”. Dan had a motto – The best things in life are not things”. In memory of Dan – remember to hug and say “I love you” to those you care for. A Celebration of Life will take place on Tuesday, August 28, 2018, at 11 AM, at St. Mark’s United Methodist Church, 100 Peachblossom Road, Easton, MD 21601, where friends may call one hour prior. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Dan’s honor to Spring Hill Cemetery, P.O. Box 92, Easton, MD 21601.
