Daniel Patrick Dullea

Daniel Patrick Dullea of Queenstown, MD, passed away suddenly on December 7, 2015, at his home. He was 60. Born on March 17, 1955, in Plainfield, NJ, the son of Cecilia Kukucka Dullea of West Springfield, MA, and the late Maurice Dullea, he grew up in NJ and later in Placentia, CA. Dan returned to Maryland where he graduated from Loyola High School and Towson University with a BA in Philosophy. While at Towson he was part of the early years of their Division III football program. His sophomore year they were undefeated. In 1975, Dan became Towson’s first All-American in football. In 1976, Towson made their first NCAA post-season appearance, securing a berth in the Stagg Bowl, the Division III championship game. Down 28-0 in the fourth quarter, Dan triggered a rally in the last 13 minutes to tie the game. Unfortunately, they lost to St. John’s of MN on a last second field goal. His accomplishments earned him an opportunity for an informal tryout with both the Baltimore Colts and the Pittsburgh Steelers. He played semi-pro football for a short time in the Baltimore area before injuries led him to a decision to stop playing. He moved to Annapolis where he met and married Lee-Anne Charbonneau. His professional career was spent as a contractor specialized in painting and finishing. He especially enjoyed being part of teams that restored or renovated properties with historical or architectural significance. He was a strong advocate for preservation versus demolition. He enjoyed running, weightlifting, sailing, and anything outdoors, along with reading, studying history, and collecting antique furniture and boat models. Most of all he loved spending time with his family, especially on trips to New England. In addition to his mother Cecilia Dullea, Dan is survived by his loving wife, Lee-Anne Dullea of Queenstown, MD; son, Nathaniel M. Dullea; daughter, Maura K. Dullea; brothers, Maurice, Edward, and Brian, all residing out of state. Services will be held on Saturday, December 12, 2015, at 12 p.m. at the Fellows, Helfenbein & Newnam Funeral Home, P.A. in Chester, MD, where friends and family may visit from 10am -12 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to the donor’s favorite charity or the Huntington’s Disease Society of America in honor of his father, brother John, and nephew Connor, all who were afflicted with the disease.
