Col. Hans Liebl

Col. Hans Liebl, U. S. Army Ret. of Easton died on Thursday, June 22, 2006 at the University of Maryland Hospital in Baltimore, MD. He was 63. Born in Munich, Germany on April 11, 1943, he was the son of Roberta Hochman Liebl of Sarasota, FL and the late Hans Liebl. In 1954, he and his family moved to the United States and resided in New York City, NY. He graduated from Grover Cleveland High School and then attended City College of NY where he was in the ROTC program. Following graduation, he entered the U.S. Army as a 2nd Lieutenant. While serving two tours of duty in Vietnam, he received two bronze stars and a Purple Heart, along with other awards of recognition for distinguished service. Following his release from active duty in 1970 he worked for Koch & Co. of N.Y. where he was a supervisor of floor panel construction of the World Trade Center, later he worked for Cornell & Co. a steel erecting company of Woodbury, N.J. Mr. Liebl remained in the U.S. Army reserves until 1993. He received the Legion of Merit Award from the President and the United States Congress for outstanding and commanding service. He moved to Easton in 1996. He loved being on the water and was an avid sailor and later enjoyed motor boating. He was a kind man and loving husband who was well respected and loved by all who knew him. In addition to his mother, Mr. Liebl is survived by his wife of 39 years, Catherine J. Liebl of Easton, his mother – in – law, Iris Liebig of Easton and several uncles and cousins both here and in Germany. Friends may call at the Fellows, Helfenbein and Newnam Funeral Home, P. A., Easton, MD on Wednesday, June 28, 2006 from 2 – 4 p.m. and 6 – 8 p.m. Burial with full military honors will be held at the Fort Myers Chapel, Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
