Clyde A. Raleigh

Clyde Albert Raleigh of Chestertown, Maryland, died Friday, September 15, 2006 at the Chester River Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Chestertown, Maryland. He was 67. Clyde A. Raleigh was born September 20, 1938 in Baltimore, Maryland, the son of the late Charles and Hilda “Thrift” Raleigh. Mr. Raleigh moved to Fairlee when he was seven years old. He was a 1956 graduate of Chestertown High School. He then attended the University of Maryland where he studied Mechanical Engineering from 1956 through 1958. He was employed by his father’s construction business from 1958 to 1961. He then went to work for the Maryland Department of Transportation from 1961 through 1992, employed 18 of those years for the State Highway Administration in the positions of bridge and highway inspector, Project Engineer, Area Engineer and Asst. Director Engineer-Construction. He left the State Highway Administration in 1979 and went to the State Railroad Administration. There he worked as a Track Inspector, Asst. Director of Commuter Services and Director of Engineering. He briefly retired in 1992 but went back to transportation work in 1994. He was employed by a number of Consultant Engineering Firms from 1994 to date working in positions ranging from Highway Inspector, Resident Engineer, Asst. Area Engineer and Asst. Manager-Quality Assurance. Mr. Raleigh had more than 42 years of management experience in civil engineering work including design, construction, construction inspection, procurement and contract administration. Mr. Raleigh married Elinor Hodgson on January 18, 1959. Along with his wife he is survived by three children, Mark Christopher Raleigh of Chestertown, Maryland, Laura Lynn Troutman of Marion, Montana and Steven Christopher Raleigh of Chestertown, Maryland, one brother Donald Raleigh of Salisbury, Maryland, and four grandchildren, Jessica, Tanner, Brittany, and Morgan. A memorial service will be held Saturday, September 23, 2006 at 3pm at the Fellows, Helfenbein and Newnam Funeral Home, 130 Speer Rd. Chestertown, MD. A Visitation will be held one hour prior.
