Clara Neal Schlotzhauer

Clara Neal Schlotzhauer passed away on Sunday, January 9, 2005 at Genesis Eldercare in Easton. She was 94. Born May 8, 1910 in Easton, she was the daughter of the late William and Annie (nee Winterbottom) Neal. Clara married Henry A. Schlotzhauer in 1931 and the couple was happily married for 29 years until Mr. Schlotzhauer’s death on January 3, 1960. She worked as a homemaker for most of her adult life, raising five children in the process. She loved spending time with her children and grandchildren and in her spare time, enjoyed reading, collecting various knickknacks, and watching her favorite soap “As the World Turns.” A lifelong resident of the Easton area, she was also a longtime member of the Talbot Lutheran Parish. She is survived by four of her five children: a daughter, Rita S. Petitt of Easton; three sons: Kenneth Neal Schlotzhauer of Easton, Phillip Chris Schlotzhauer of Ridge Spring, S.C., and Edward Glen Schlotzhauer of Brooksville, Fla.; seven grandchildren: Kathy Schlotzhauer Fox and her husband Gary, Karen M. Brown and her husband Kevin, Kristine Schlotzhauer George and her husband Kevin, and Phillip Chris Schlotzhauer, Jr., all of Easton; Angela Schlotzhauer Roper and her husband Jeffrey of Ft. Mills, S.C.; William “Rocky” Boyles of Alaska; and Terry Perry and her husband David of Salisbury; and four great-grandchildren: Danielle and Noelle Brown of Easton; Abigail Roper of Ft. Mills; and Tanner Perry of Salisbury. She is also survived by two daughter-in-laws: Nadia Schlotzhauer of Easton and Debbie Schlotzhauer of Ridge Spring. In addition to her husband, she is predeceased by her oldest son, William Henry Schlotzhauer, who died on April 21, 1990; four sisters: Lillian Dobson, Annie Lankford, Hattie Ozman, and Marjorie Lomax; two brothers: William and Bennie Neal; a son-in-law, Martin Petitt, Jr.; and two daughter-in-laws: Virginia Jones Schlotzhauer and Diane Bartholomy Schlotzhauer. Funeral services will be held on Monday, January 17 at 11 a.m. at Fellows, Helfenbein and Newnam Funeral Home, P.A. in Easton, where friends may call on Sunday, January 16 from 2 to 4 p.m. and one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church Cemetery in Cordova. Honorary Pallbearers will be Phillip Schlotzhauer, Jr., Gary Fox, Kevin Brown, Kevin George, Steve Hardesty, and Lewis Plugge. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Talbot Lutheran Parish, 111 Brookletts Avenue, Easton, MD 21601.
