Charles Edmund Wessel

Charles Edmund Wessel of Millington, Md. died Thursday, April 25, 2002 at his home in Millington, Md. He was 76. Charles E. Wessel was born July 31, 1925 in Church Hill, Md. the son of the late William Henry and Lillian Jeanette “Bland” Wessel. Mr. Wessel, a lifetime resident of the area was a Veteran of the United States Army and through his service to his country was awarded the Bronze Star Medal, the Purple Heart, the Good Conduct Medal, the European African Middle Eastern Theater Service Ribbon, and the World War II Victory Ribbon. After his service to his country Mr. Wessel came home and served as a Police Officer for the Chestertown, Betterton and Middletown, De. Areas. He then worked as a Construction Operater for William Simpler and then later was a truck driver for William Simpler as well as Julian Leager. Mr. Wessel was a Lifetime member of the Millington VFW Post 652. He enjoyed going to yard sales and auctions especially the Dixon Furniture Auction in Crumpton, Md. and Spences auction in Dover, De. He liked to tinker and work on anything mechanical around his home as well as relaxing in the shade in the summertime. Charles E. Wessel is preceded in death by his first wife, Ethel Wessel in 1979 and his brother, Perry Wessel and wife Doris N., Wessel in 1980. Mr. Wessel is survived by his wife, Doris M. Wessel of Millington, Md., 1 step daughter, Marsha Carpenter of Millington, Md., 3 sons, James E. Wessel of Mesa, Arizona, John A. Wessel of Montgomery, Alabama, and C. Edwin Wessel of Cooper City, Florida, 2 step sons, Charles W. Clough Jr. of Millington, Md. and Steven A. Clough of Betterton, Md., 1 sister Dorothy Sinclair of Elkton, Md., 1 aunt, Katherine Wessel Minch of Grasonville, Md. and 1 uncle, Eugene Bland of Edenton, N.C., 11 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Services will be held Monday, April 29, 2002 at 11 am at the Fellows, Helfenbein and Newnam Funeral Home, 370 W. Cypress St. Millington, Md. Friends may call 1 hour prior. Interment will follow services at the Church Hill cemetery in Church Hill, Md.
