Charles John Tine

Charles “Chuck” John Tine, a 25-year resident of Chestertown, MD, passed away Monday, Dec. 12, 2016, following a valiant battle against Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML). He was 70 years old. Mr. Tine was born January 25, 1946, in Baltimore, MD, the son of the late Charles H. Tine and Margaret “Sparr” Tine. Chuck was a 1964 graduate of Bel Air High School where he excelled in football, basketball and baseball. Upon graduation, he chose a full football scholarship to the University of Maryland over playing in the Baltimore Orioles baseball organization. He graduated the University of Maryland with a Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Education, Recreation, and Health while playing football for all four years for the Terps. Following graduation, he began his career with Verizon, retiring with over 40 years at the company working in the Marketing and Engineering Departments. He enlisted in the 2nd Battalion 110th Field Artillery in Pikesville, MD (1970). He was honorably discharged in 1993 as a Staff Sergeant. After retirement he enjoyed working at Aqua Fit in Chestertown. Chuck was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Chestertown. Throughout his life, he was involved in youth athletics, coaching football, basketball, baseball, and softball and was the assistant softball coach for Washington College for several years. Chuck loved playing with his children and grandchildren, fishing, walking the beach, birdwatching, collecting model trains, and was an avid Maryland Terps fan and sports enthusiast. He is survived by his wife of nearly 50 years, Marjorie L. Tine of Chestertown, MD; his daughter, Marlene “Missy” Tine (Brian Reynolds) and her daughter Ella of Millington, MD; two sons, Michael A. Tine (Amanda) and their children Heidi and Gwen of Riva, MD, Lt. Col. Gregory C. Tine (Jennifer) and their children Zac and Katie of Hanover, PA; and one sister, Dorothy DeHaven of Cockeysville, MD. A visitation will be held Sunday, December 18, 2016, from 4-6pm, at Fellows, Helfenbein and Newnam Funeral Home, 130 Speer Rd, Chestertown, MD. A Memorial service will be held Monday, December 19, 2016, at 11am, also at the funeral home. Friends may call one hour prior to the service. Interment will be private.
