Charles Silas Brice

Charles Silas Brice of Rock Hall, MD, passed away on August 13, 2023, at the age of 95. Mr. Brice was born in Rock Hall on January 24, 1928, one of the eleven children of the late Harry Brice and Amanda Thomas Brice. After graduating from high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy, where he fought in WWII before he was honorably discharged. After his time in the Navy, he returned home and began a 36-year career with C&P Telephone Company and retired from AT&T. In December of 1950, he married the late Susan Carter Brice. As a lifetime resident of Rock Hall, he was a member of the Rock Hall Volunteer Fire Company, a former Rock Hall Town Councilman, former member of the Rock Hall Lions Club, and a faithful member of the Sgt Preston Ashley American Legion Post #228. He was also a long-term trustee of Rock Hall United Methodist Church, a former courier for PNC Bank, and a longstanding member of Ducks Unlimited. He was an avid fisherman and hunter and came from a long family history of military service. His father served in WWI in France and his sister, Nina, was an Army nurse in WWII. His brother Tilden was a Marine in Okinawa in WWII; brother Joe was in the Army in Germany during WWII; Charles was in the Navy towards the end of WWII in the Pacific; brother John served in Korea with the Marines; brother Wade was an Army paratrooper; and his brother Richard was a Marine as well. In addition to his wife Susan, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Tilden, Joe, John, and Richard, and sisters, Nina, Betty, and Peggy. He is survived by his daughter, Sandy Supers (Eddie); son, Carter Brice (Amy); grandchildren, Amanda Phillips (Matt) and Jason Supers (Lesley); six great-grandchildren, Abilene, Charlie, Josie, Bridget, Kinley, and Kolin; a brother, Wade Brice; sisters, Lavina Slagle and Barbara Collins; as well as many nieces and nephews. Services will be held on Sunday, August 20, at 2 p.m. at Fellows, Helfenbein, and Newnam Funeral Home in Chestertown, where a visitation will be held one hour prior, from 1 – 2 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment to follow at St. Paul’s Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Rock Hall Volunteer Fire Company at P.O. Box 577, Rock Hall, MD 21661 or to Talbot Hospice at 586 Cynwood Dr., Easton, MD 21601.
