Catherine M. Hauer

Catherine M. Hauer passed away peacefully on December 17, 2015, at Anne Arundel Medical Center after a brief illness, with her family and friends at her side. She was born Catherine Margaret Kline on August 17, 1922, being one of ten children of Appollonia and Charles Kline. She attended St. Joseph’s School in Fullerton, MD, before marrying Francis (Butch) Hauer on January 15, 1944. She lived in many locations as a Navy wife, including Norfolk VA, San Francisco, CA, Saipan Mariana Island, Patuxent River, and Clinton MD. While stationed at the Patuxent River NAS, she worked as a telephone switchboard operator where she put her excellent memory to practical use. She moved to Love Point in Stevensville, MD, in 1972 and was very proud of her contributions to the Kent Island Elks Lodge. As a member of Kent Island Ladies of the Elks, she served multiple terms as president and other leadership positions. She was also a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Knights of Columbus and served as its president and treasurer. She was predeceased by her husband, Francis (Butch) Hauer in 2013. Surviving family include her son, William Hauer and his wife Ruth of Baltimore, MD; her daughter, Dolores DeBlois and her husband Ronald of Bishopville MD; granddaughter, Gwendolyn Crisafulli and her husband Matt; grandson, William Hauer, Jr., and his wife Sarah; granddaughter, Kayleen Darrow and her husband Jon; granddaughter, Linda Kwelberg and her husband Todd; grandson, Robert DeBlois and his wife Linda; granddaughter, Mary Ledbetter and her husband Daniel; grandson Nicholas Hauer; granddaughter, Joellyn Scott and her husband Brian; ten great-grandchildren, Monica and Natalie Crisifulli, Mason Darrow, Erik-Ian and Aidan Kwelberg, Ryan and Patti DeBlois, Henry Scott and Emma and Liam Hauer. She is also survived by two brothers, John Kline and Edward Kline of Baltimore MD; and two sisters, Leona Shannon and Dorothy Carpenter also of Baltimore MD. She was predeceased by her sisters, Marie Brungard and Theresa Payton; and three brothers Laurence, Charles, and Frank Kline. The family wishes to give special thanks to Catherine’s niece Darlene Watson for her generous contribution of time and effort in assisting with caregiving. Also, on their mother’s behalf, her children wish to thank B.J. Tomardy for her long-term friendship and frequent visits; Carrie Osborn for her spiritual inspiration; and Lorraine Sincavage for her kindness and caregiving. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to St. Christopher’s Church, 1861 Harbor Dr., Chester, MD 21619. A Funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, December 21, 2013, at St. Christopher’s Catholic Church in Chester. Burial will follow at St. Peters Cemetery in Queenstown, MD. A visitation will be on Saturday, December 19, 2015, from 6 to 8 p.m., and Sunday December 20, 2015, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at Fellows, Helfenbein & Newnam Funeral Home, P.A. in Chester, MD.
