Calvin Ray Richardson

Calvin “Ray” Richardson of Centreville, MD, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 22, 2018, at Compass Regional Hospice. He was 79. Born in Centreville on May 26, 1939, he was the son of Calvin Sheubrooks Richardson and June Frazier Kolata. He was educated through the Centreville School System and served in the United States Navy from 1956-1960. After being honorably discharged, he married Beverly Ann Rash that same year. They lived in Queenstown before building a home in Bennett Point. Ray worked at Kunkels Auto Parts, Queenstown, and Kerr McGee Chemical Company, Centreville, before purchasing and moving his family to the Richardson Farm on the Chester River outside of Centreville in 1971. When he wasn’t farming, Ray worked construction with Frank Tyler, Centreville, Johnsongrass Control for Queen Anne’s County and excavating with R. W. Turner and Sons, Centreville. In 1988, he held a part-time janitorial position at Delmarva Power, Centreville, and in 1995, was employed as a security guard at Chesapeake College, Wye Mills. He retired from Chesapeake College in 2004 and worked at Delmarva until his health declined in August 2018. Ray was proud to be a member of the National Rifle Association and the Maryland Farm Bureau where he served for many years on the Board of Directors. He was an avid reader and farmer and enjoyed hunting, dancing on Saturday nights, and the challenge and patience of fixing anything that was broken. He is survived by his loving wife, Beverly, and three children, Kevin Ray Richardson, Kellye Ann Richardson and Brian Keith Richardson (Christine), Centreville; his grandchildren, Brandon Keith Richardson, Hayden Linwood Richardson and McKenna Kate Richardson, Centreville; his sisters, Connie Wilson (Robert), Centreville; Lois McFadden (Bruce), NJ; and June Carole Stubbs (Clarence Thomas), FL; and many nieces and nephews. Friends and family may visit on Wednesday, September 26, from 1:00 - 3:00 and 5:00 - 7:00 pm at Centreville United Methodist Church in Centreville, MD, where a funeral service will be held on Thursday, September 27, at 11:00 a.m., with a catered luncheon following. A private burial is planned later at Chesterfield Cemetery in Centreville, MD.
