Calvin Henry Duncan

Calvin Duncan, age 79, of Ridgely, MD, passed away on May 2nd, 2025. He was the son of the late Kenneth and Violet Duncan. He was born September 12th,1945 in Baltimore, MD. He is survived by his siblings, Kenny Duncan, Peggy Gardner, Shirley Sperl (Rich), Carolyn Snyder and preceded in death by his brother Eddie Duncan, sister- in- law Kitty Duncan and brother-in-law Howard Gardner Sr. He is also survived by his three daughters, Donna L. Barnes (Brian), Karen A. Stanavich (Steve) and Melinda A. Duncan (Greg). Grandfather to Laight, Kendall, Logan, Hailey, Sierra and Parker. Great-Grandfather to Tucker, Silas, Eden, Harper, Levi and Rhema. He also adored his many nieces and nephews, especially his nephew Howard Gardner Jr., (predeceased). He spent many years with his significant other, Darlene Rhodes and her son Mike Rhodes along with his daughters Krystyna, Kaitlyn and Michelle. Darlene also had two sons Randy Rhodes and Page Rhodes (predeceased). He grew up on Kent Island, where he enjoyed hunting, crabbing, fishing, but most of all his love for serving his community as a member of the Kent Island Volunteer Fire Department. Calvin joined the department when he turned 16. He served from1961-1991 and of those 30 years he was the Chief for 11. He worked on the water for many years crabbing, clamming and oystering then moved on to be a crane operator for various companies throughout the remainder of his career, retiring from Wagman, Inc. in 2024. Over the years he had a love for Chesapeake Bay Retrievers, “Chief”, “Bear 1”, “Bear 2” & “Buddy”. In his later years Dad enjoyed his love for his purple martin houses. He looked forward to seeing the same birds return every year. He was also very proud of the garden he would plant each year and he would say “he had the best garden of all” and he sure did! Though he is no longer with us he will always be our “Dad” and known to many as “The Legend”. A Visitation will be held at Fellows Helfenbein and Newnam Funeral Home 106 Shamrock Road Chester MD 21619 from 2-4 and 6-8 on Monday May 12th. The Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday Mat 13th at 11am with a viewing beginning at 10am at Fellows Helfenbein and Newnam Funeral Home 106 Shamrock Road Chester MD 21619. Burial will take place immediately after the funeral at Stevesville cemetery.
