Bruce Lee Settle Sr.

Bruce Settle, Sr., 71, of Stevensville, MD, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 14, 2024. He was born in Washington, D.C. on February 26, 1953, to John Henry and Barbara Ann (Morrison- Settle) Snow. Bruce attended Albert Einstein High School before enlisting in the U.S. Army, where he proudly served his country from September 29, 1972, to September 25, 1975. After his honorable discharge, Bruce met the love of his life, Catherine, and they married on December 17, 1988. In 2003, Bruce and Catherine moved their family to Stevensville, MD, where Bruce found great joy in boating, fishing, and crabbing with loved ones. He was affectionately known by many as the "Kent Island Cowboy" (KIC), a nickname that became a signature part of his life. Bruce was an active member of the American Legion Post 66 & 278, where he took pleasure in participating in turkey shoots and supporting fellow veterans. Bruce was a passionate sports fan, rooting for the Washington Redskins (later the Washington Commanders), the Washington Capitals, and NASCAR driver Bill Elliott. He retired in 2016 from JP Sewerooter after enduring a personal tragedy with the loss of his firstborn son, Bruce Jr. On October 9, 2024, Bruce accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior, finding peace in his faith. Bruce is survived by his loving wife of 36 years, Catherine Ann; his son, Blake Lee; his older brother, John Roberts (Bobby); his younger sister, Phyllis (Settle-Dewitt) Andrews, and his youngest stepbrother, Ward (Phil) Snow. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. Family and friends are invited to pay their respects at a viewing and funeral service on Tuesday, October 22, 2024, at Fellows, Helfenbein & Newnam Funeral Home, located at 106 Shamrock Rd, Chester, MD 21619. Visitation will be held from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM, followed by a service. Burial with military honors will take place at Stevensville Cemetery, Stevensville, MD. In Bruce's passing, we are reminded of the deep truth in John 14:27-28: "I am leaving you with a gift – peace of mind and heart! And the peace I give isn’t fragile like the peace the world gives. So don’t be troubled or afraid. Remember what I told you – I am going away, but I will come back to you again.
