Brant Simms Sr.

Brant Oliver Simms Sr. of Rock Hall, MD, formerly a lifelong resident of Perry Hall, MD died on Monday, August 19, 2002 at Kent and Queen Anne’s Hospital in Chestertown, MD. He was 98. Born in Perry Hall, MD on January 7, 1904, he was the son of the late Edward and Barbara Elizabeth Eisner Simms. He married Helen Gabler on December 12, 1930 and together they resided in Perry Hall, MD. Mr. Simms worked as a first class plaster and cement finisher by trade and built several homes on Hines Road in Perry Hall, where he also resided. He retired in 1961 and later moved in 1993 to Rock Hall to live with his daughter. His wife predeceased him on May 4, 1995. He was the oldest living male member of the Perry Hall United Methodist Church. He loved to play the mandolin and was an avid checkers player. Mr. Simms was well known throughout his life and during his career as always wearing a white shirt and tie. Mr. Simms is survived by a son, Brant Oliver Simms,Jr. and his wife, Rachel Simms of Middle River, MD; a daughter, Helen Burton and her husband, The Reverend Albert C. Burton of Rock Hall, MD; a grandson, Ron Simms and his wife, Theresa of Glen Burnie and their two sons, David and Chris Simms; a granddaughter-in-law, Kyong Hwa O’Keefe,the former wife of the late, Dale Simms and her two sons, Leon and Raymond Simms. Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 23, 2002 at 11:00 AM at Perry Hall United Methodist Church in Perry Hall, MD with the Reverend Dr. Robert Clipp, officiating. Relatives and friends may call one hour prior to the service (10:00 to 11:00 A.M) at the church and on Thursday, August 22, 2002 between the hours of 6:00 to 7:30 PM at Fellows, Helfenbein and Newnam Funeral Home, Route #20, Rock Hall, MD. Interment will be in Parkwood Cemetery in Parkville, MD. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Youth Program of Rock Hall Methodist Charge or Perry Hall United Methodist Church both c/o Brant Simms Memorials, P.O.
