Bernard Stinnett

Bernard John Stinnett, a longtime resident of Baltimore City, now a resident of Heron Point, Chestertown, MD died on June 10, 2004 at Heron Point. He was 90. Born in Baltimore, MD on July 29, 1913, he was the son of the late Jesse Edward and Nora Ann Hudson Stinnett. Mr. Stinnett celebrated his fiftieth wedding anniversary in December of 1995 with his wife Hester. She predeceased him in 2000. Mr. Stinnett, a retired school principal, received his Bachelor of Arts Degree and Masters of Education degree from the Johns Hopkins University. He was a lifetime member of Phi Beta Kappa. He worked for the Baltimore City School System for his entire professional career, first as a teacher and later as a principaland for fourteen years, he was the principal of the Samuel Gompers Vocational High School, and then principal of the Woodrow Wilson High School until he retired. Mr. Stinnett influenced generations of students and teachers who worked with him. His work with the school system was briefly interrupted by his service in the U.S. Army during WWII. While stationed in Louisiana he met his future wife and they were married in Louisiana and moved to Baltimore, where Mr. Stinnett resumed his teaching position. He was an avid reader and an amateur photographer. He was a devoted supporter of Johns Hopkins Lacrosse. Mt. Stinnett is survived by a son, Daniel E. Stinnett and his wife, Bonnie of Church Hill, MD; a daughter, Hester A. Stinnett and her husband, Donald Bohn of Philadelphia, PA; grandchildren, Susan, Jennifer, Amy, Sarah, Daniel Jr. and John Stinnett and Gareth Bohn. Relatives and friends may call on Friday, June 11, 2004 between the hours of 6:00 and 8:00 P.M. at Fellows, Helfenbein and Newnam Funeral Home, P.A., 130 Speer Road, Chestertown and on Monday June 14, 2004 between the hours of 1:00 and 2:00 P.M. at Kilpatrick Funeral Home in Ruston, LA where a service will be held at 2:00 P.M. Interment will be held Monday, June 14, 2004 in Oak Grove Cemetery in Louisiana.
