Benedict Hentschel Dyer

Benedict Hentschel Dyer of Easton, MD, joined our Heavenly Father on June 11, 2023, at the age of 15. At the University of Maryland Medical Center, Baltimore, MD, his passing was a result of injuries sustained from a car accident. Benedict was born on July 13, 2007, in Salisbury, MD. A lifelong Sabre, he had attended Saints Peter and Paul Elementary School since Pre-K and had just completed his sophomore year at Saints Peter and Paul High School in Easton. A member of the SSPP's Varsity Ice Hockey and Lacrosse teams, Benedict also played with the Easton Icehawks for many years. He was very proud to be invited to play next season on their 18U team. From the time he joined Easton’s Cub Scouts Pack 190 in 2013, he was continuously involved in Boys Scouts of America and was recently promoted to the rank of Life Scout with Troop 741, St. Michaels, MD. Benedict spent many summers at the Miles River Yacht Club, St. Michaels, where he was an active member of the Marlins Swim Team and Jr Sail Race Team for nearly a decade. Assisting in Mass as an altar server for the past six years, he had always been involved in the SSPP faith community, from his Baptism to his confirmation. This coming July, he was looking forward to joining his brother and peers to participate in a weeklong mission trip. And just a few weeks ago, he earned the American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification. These lessons, along with his Scout skills, were instrumental in helping to save the life of a family member, just a day before his own accident. A true Eastern Shore boy, he loved hunting and fishing. Whether on the Miles River or in the tidal marshes of Chance, MD, he was happiest around the water. Resourceful and determined, he was an ingenious problem solver. Working on his Jon boat, fishing lures and hunting gear were his main passions. Even in the rush of school and sports activities, he also knew when to slow down, be silent, and appreciate the beauty of nature. Those nearest to him called him “Benny,” and he was truly blessed with many close friends who shared in his adventures. Benedict is survived by his parents, Paul Kavanaugh Dyer and Kimberly Lynne Dyer; brothers, Paul Kavanaugh Dyer, Jr. and Vincent Thomas Dyer, all of Easton, MD; his grandparents, John Joseph Dyer, III, of Baltimore, MD, Carol Hentschel Crowder of Salisbury, MD, and Thomas Burgess Crowder and wife Roni Crowder of The Villages, FL. He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Catherine Elizabeth Dyer of Baltimore, MD. He is survived by a multitude of extended family and friends who will always cherish his spark for life. While Benedict’s passing came all too suddenly, he became an organ donor and thus provided the gift of life and a second chance to a number of other individuals. A viewing will be held on Friday, June 23, 2023, from 5-8 p.m. at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church on 1210 S. Washington St, in Easton. A Mass of Christian burial will be conducted on Saturday, June 24, 2023, at 11 a.m. in the church. An interment will follow at the church cemetery. The family wants to thank the multiple Talbot County fire departments, the Sheriff’s office, Maryland State Police and Aviation, and all other responding volunteers and agencies for their courage and tireless service in very dangerous circumstances. In addition, the family wishes to extend their gratitude to the many staff members of the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center and the organ donor foundation, Infinite Legacy, whose care and professionalism helped the family endure a very difficult week in Baltimore. They also wish to express their thanks for the care by the Fellows, Helfenbein and Newnam Funeral Home staff, and lastly, for the tremendous outpouring of love, friendship, and support from many friends in Talbot County and beyond. In lieu of flowers, a memorial contribution may be made to your local volunteer fire company.
