Beatrice Alice Freeman

Beatrice Alice Freeman gained her wings on April 12, 2017. She passed at the University of Maryland Medical Center in Baltimore at the age of 79. Born on October 23, 1937, in Chestertown, MD, she was the tenth child of the late Woodson and Florence Freeman. After receiving her education at Garnette High School, she spent her years in the food industry. She retired with Allan Foods as a line worker. Beatrice was a member of Mt. Pisgah United Methodist Church, in which she enjoyed going to Sunday service, church events, and singing on the choir. In fact, during her lifetime, she sang on numerous choirs, and on any occasion, you could catch her singing or humming her favorite hymns and gospel songs. Beatrice was known to family and friends as Bea or Bea Bea and known to her grandchildren as Mum Mum Bea. She enjoyed going to the Senior Center, doing puzzles, singing, dancing, traveling, and talking on the phone. For a woman that did not drive, Bea always on the move. If there was something going on, you can count on Bea being there enjoying her friends and family. Bea was well-known around Chestertown and would sit outside with her neighbors. Bea loved being around her family. She looked forward to spending time with her sisters, sons, and daughter. She would speak to her children daily, no matter how near or far they were. Every Christmas, her grandchildren in New York could count on their Mum Mum Bea sending a package full of goodies, whether it was clothes, gift cards, or something she painted. As the saying goes, good things come in small packages. Bea had a big heart and will be greatly missed by many. Leaving to cherish her memory are one daughter Louise Ransom of New York; one son, Samuel Hicks ( Lisa ) of Chestertown, MD; one daughter-in-law, Brenda Briscoe of Newark, DE; three sisters, Ellen Lively, Florence Briscoe ( Herbert), and Dorothy Wilson all of Chestertown, MD.; two brothers, Simon and Andrew Freeman both of Wilmington, DE; six grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by one son, Bernard Briscoe; one-son in-law, James Ransom; one sister, Lillian Freeman; and six brothers, Howard, Norman, Melvin, Woodson, Charles, and George Freeman. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 22, 2017, at 12:00pm, at Mt. Pisgah United Methodist Church, where relatives and friends may call on Friday, April 21, 2017, from 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm and on Saturday from 11:00 am – 12:00 pm. Interment will be in Mt. Pisgah United Methodist Church Cemetery, following the service.
