Barry Wallace Jones

Barry Wallace Jones of Rock Hall, MD, passed away on Tuesday, March 27, 2018, at his home. He was 79. Born on January 21, 1939, in Fairlee, MD, he was the son of the late George Herman and Frances Louise Jones. Growing up, he enjoyed playing sports – soccer, basketball, and baseball. He graduated from Rock Hall High School, Class of 1956. He enlisted in the United States Navy on June 14, 1956, and served for four years. After being honorably discharged, he returned to Rock Hall and married in 1960 to Clara Reed for 14 years. He later remarried to Carolyn Dashiell in 1975. Together they operated and owned Maggies in Rock Hall. His 46 year career was spent as mason, or “a burnt clay artist,” as he put it. He worked with Allen Tyler & Sons; primarily, however, he also traveled extensively as a bricklayer. Mr. Jones was a member of Rock Hall United Methodist Church, a life member of the Sgt. Preston Ashley American Legion, Post 228 in Rock Hall, the Chestertown Elks Lodge, #2474 and # 53 as a charter member. Mr. Jones enjoyed his family and was an avid sports fan. He often watched the Orioles and the Ravens, as well as other sports. Mr. Jones also coached basketball, baseball and men’s and women’s softball. In addition to his wife of 43 years, Carolyn M. Jones, he is survived by five daughters, Angel Lins and her husband Maurice of Chestertown, MD, Robin Newnam of FL, Laurie Haas and her husband David of Rock Hall, MD, Bari Lynne Kersey and her husband Russell of Lynch, MD, and Brandee Vaughn and her husband Lee of Rock Hall, MD; a sister, Kay Glenn and her husband Walter of Havre de Grave, MD; eight grandchildren, Tyler (Brittany), Sarah, Taylor (Missy), Chelsea, Audra (Greg), Heather, Trenton, and Jonah; three great-grandchildren, Kylee, Maggie and Kaleb; one aunt; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister, Dorothy Carroll, and his brother, Herman Jones, Jr. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, April 8, 2018, at 2:00 pm at Fellows, Helfenbein & Newnam Funeral Home, 130 Speer Road, Chestertown, MD, where relatives and friends may call one hour prior (1-2pm). A reception will follow at Rock Hall Vol. Fire Co. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to the Rock Hall United Methodist Charge, P.O. Box 66, Rock Hall, MD 21661.
