Barbara Lou Pierce

Barbara Lou Pierce, 78, of Stevensville, MD, died on March 9, 2014, at Hospice of Queen Anne’s. Born in Washington, DC, on March 12, 1935, she was the daughter of the late Francis J. and Callie Janet Mullen Reese. She graduated from Washington Lee High School in Arlington, VA, as a member of the Class of 1953. After graduation, she was married to Larry Spellbring of Washington, DC, and together they had five children. In 1983, she married Thomas M. Pierce of Baltimore, MD. Mrs. Pierce worked at several companies throughout her career as a secretary, but was best known for her work at American Pest Control of Annapolis, MD, and Curves of Edgewater, MD. In 1991, Mr. and Mrs. Pierce moved from Annapolis, MD, to Stevensville, MD. Barbara was a born again follower of Jesus Christ. She was baptized in 2006 at the age of 71. Barb was blessed to be a devoted and active family member with her brothers and sisters of The Bridge Church in Stevensville, MD. She is survived by her loving husband, Thomas M. Pierce; her children, Janet Council and her husband, Criag, of Easton, MD, Mark Spellbring and his wife, Jessica, of Queenstown, MD, Susan Clow and her husband, Michael, of Milton, DE, Elizabeth Hoffman and her husband, Henry, of Stevensville, MD, and Barbara Dowling and her husband, Bruce, of Annapolis, MD; stepchildren, Thomas Pierce of Elkridge, MD, and Kathleen Capp and her husband, Daniel, of Annapolis, MD; a brother, Thomas Stanley of TX; 10 grandchildren, Michael Clow, Jennifer Slawson, Katie Clow, Brett Spellbring, Danielle Rodrique, Kristin Hoffman, Sarah Hoffman, Shawn Klakring, Zachary Dowling and Chad Dowling; and two great-grandchildren, Cameron Rodrique and Mikalya Rodrique. A visitation will be held on Friday, March 14, 2014, from 6-8 p.m. at Fellows, Helfenbein & Newnam Funeral Home in Chester, MD, and a memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 15, 2014, at the Fellows, Helfenbein & Newnam Funeral Home, P.A. in Chester, MD. Interment will follow at Stevensville Cemetery in Stevensville, MD, and the family will have fellowship at American Legion in Stevensville.
