Barbara Ann Hanifee

Barbara Ann (nee Faulkner) Hanifee passed away peacefully on February 25, 2018. Barbara was born on May 11, 1938, to Imogene and Bill Faulkner in Easton Hospital (Imogene was visiting her uncle in Easton at the time) and grew up in Chestertown, MD. Her grandparents were Iva Mae and William James Faulkner, and Lydia and Harry Thompson, Sr. She was always close to her aunts and uncle - Myrtle Downey, Virginia Willson, Harry Thompson, Jr., Eunice Kirby, Dorothy Kelly and Louise Nordoff. She graduated from Chestertown High School in 1956 and then attended Hahnemann Hospital Training School for Nurses in Philadelphia, graduated in 1959 and began work as a registered nurse at Kent & Queen Anne County Hospital. In 1960, she took a break from the hospital and worked at Kitty’s Nursing Home in Sudlersville, MD from 1966-1978 while she raised her three children. She returned to Kent & Queen Anne’s Hospital where she worked as an operating room nurse from 1978 until 2008 when she “retired” and then worked part-time until four years ago. Her favorite memories were all the travel she did with family and friends, spending time with family on the weekends (Friday lunch bunch), playing Skipbo, reading, sharing time with two homemakers groups, and women’s bible study at Wesley Chapel. She touched many lives over the years while she nursed or simply shared her time and laughter. She is survived by her husband, Allan Thomas Hanifee, Sr.; her children, Tom Hanifee, Greg Hanifee and Jennifer Harper; her grandchildren, Tawes Harper, Thomas Hanifee, Crystal Hanifee, Tara Hanifee, Tess Hanifee, Jack Hanifee; sisters and their spouses, Helen and Chuck Stevens, Joyce and Bill Hodgson, and Janet and Charlie Reynolds; good friend, cousin, and caregiver, Nancy Walls; in-laws John (Jack) Hanifee, James Hanifee, Betty Mount and their children; and many, many friends in the community. In lieu of flowers, Barbara’s wish is to have donations made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital (www.stjude.org or 800-805-5856). A gravesite service will be held on Saturday, March 3, 2018 ,at Chester Cemetery in Chestertown, MD, at 2 p.m. The family welcomes everyone to a reception at the home of Joyce and Bill Hodgson, 130 Wilton Rd, Chestertown immediately following the service.
