Audrey Mae Bayly

Audrey Mae Bayly of Easton, MD died September 28, 2001 at Talbot Hospice House, Easton after a long illness. She was 82. Born April 30, 1919 in St. Catherine’s Ontario, she was the daughter of the late William and Jessie Irene Bombay Quintrell. When she was a child, the family moved to Landsdale, PA and later to Quakertown, PA. In 1983, she moved to the Eastern Shore of Maryland where she resided in Bozman and Easton before moving to Hospice House last year. Her 1939 marriage to John West of Bozman ended with his death in 1972. In 1973 she married Ernest Albert Bayly, also of Bozman; they moved to Hyde Park in 1983. Mr. Bayly died April 18, 1994. A brother, William Quintrell and three sisters; Marie Gebhart, Grace Emmerich and Ruth Quintrell, are also deceased. During World War II, she worked to help the war effort. She also worked in Pennsylvania as a physical therapy assistant to Dr. Rodney T. Buckman. In Maryland, she worked at Rio Vista Nursing Home as a nurses’ aid until her retirement in 1972. An avid bowler, she was a member of several leagues and was a Senior State Bowling Champion. She also enjoyed fishing and boating, needlework and cooking. In her early months at Hospice, she delighted guests and staff with her homemade breads and pastries. During her residence at Hospice, she granted many interviews and became a passionate advocate of the Foundation’s mission, which earned her the nickname “Duchess of Cynwood” among staff and volunteers and made her a local celebrity. Mrs. Bayly is survived by a brother, Paul Quintrell of Hatfield, PA; ten nieces and nephews, including Eileen Gebhart of Ocean Springs, MS and Shirley Weitzel and Gerald Quintrell, both of Quakertown, PA. In addition, she leaves two devoted caregivers, Susan DeLean Botkin, N.P., and Shelby Hopkins, as well as a host of friends and admirers. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, October 2, 2001 at 11:00 AM at the Fellows, Helfenbein and Newnam Funeral Home P.A., Easton, where friends may call on Monday evening from 6 to 8 PM. Burial will be at Maryland Veterans Cemetery Eastern Shore, Beulah. Memorial donations may be made to Talbot Hospice Foundation, 586 Cynwood Dr., Easton, MD 21601.
