Anna Morton-Cross

Anna Morton-Cross was born on March 27, 1935, to the late Alexander J. Mayeski and Frances Macek-Mayeski. She was raised in Baltimore, MD, and attended school in Dundalk, MD. In 1953, she married Jerome L. Morton. They lived and raised a family in Dundalk, MD for 33 years. During that time, she was a homemaker and volunteer at St. Rita’s School. They moved to the Eastern Shore of Maryland in 1981, and resided in Grasonville, MD. In 1982, she began working at the Waffle Haus. There, she worked making many friends and extended family, until they closed. She then worked at Angler’s Restaurant for the following two years. In 1996, her husband Jerome L. Morton passed away. In 1997, she married again to Alonzo “Paul” Cross, who passed in 2009. During their time together, they traveled in their motor home often. Mrs. Morton-Cross also enjoyed volunteering at the Grasonville, MD VFW Lodge as a cook, and a member of the Ladies Auxiliary. She later moved to Easton, MD where she continued her volunteer work at the Easton Chapter of the Ladies Auxiliary of the VFW. Her free time was filled with a wide variety of crafts and hobbies such as making and arranging flowers, macrame, crochet, ceramics, sewing, and extensive, ornate beadwork. Above all, she loved to dance! Mrs. Anna Morton-Cross passed away at home with family. She has four children, Leroy Morton, Edward Morton, Wilma “Kay” Kessler and Sherrie Morton. One sibling, Paul Mayeksi; four grandchildren, Lee Morton, Matthew Morton, Deanna Lingerfelt, and Katherine Burns. Mrs. Anna Morton-Cross was loved and cherished by many great grandchildren, nieces and nephews, extended family and friends. We would like to give a special “Thank You” to Alyssa Lingerfelt, for all the help and love you showed to Nana daily, especially the spa days she loved so much. The family will receive guests and friends at Fellows, Helfenbein & Newnam Funeral Home, 200 S. Harrison St., Easton, MD on Thursday, February 5th from 10:30 until 12:30. A funeral service will immediately follow at 12: 30 at the funeral home. Interment will take place at the Maryland Eastern Shore Veterans Cemetery, 3827 East New Market Ellwood Road, Hurlock, MD 21643.
