Alyce G. Hill

Alyce G. Hill died Thursday, February 27, 2003 at her home. She was 61. Born on April 5, 1941 in Parkersburg, WV, she was the daughter of the late Raymond E. “Bud” Griffith and Alice Elizabeth Reynolds. She attended Parkersburg High School and graduated class of 1959. After graduation she attended Glenville State College graduating in 1963. Mrs. Hill continued her education receiving a Masters degree from University of Maryland in 1978. On May 31, 1964 in Murphytown, WV, she married Ronald W. Hill of Sandyville, WV. They resided together in Parkersburg,WV. Mrs. Hill began her teaching career at Murphytown Elementary School in 1963. In 1965, she and her husband moved to the Eastern Shore residing in Chester, MD. Once in Maryland, she began working for the Queen Anne’s County Board of Education as a classroom teacher and a Chapter I Resource Room Teacher. She retired in 1996 and became a reading tutor at Kent Island Elementary School. Many of the younger generation may remember her fondly as their Red Cross swimming instructor. She was a member of the Queen Anne’s County Retired Teachers Association, active in the Kent Island United Methodist Church and a past president of Gideon’s International Auxiliary of Queen Anne’s County. Mrs. Hill enjoyed gardening, flowers, traveling, teaching swimming, fellowship at her home, her grandson and family. She enjoyed life to the fullest. In addition to her husband, Ronald W. Hill of Chester, MD, she is survived by one son, Andrew W. Hill of Church Hill, MD; one daughter, Kathryn E. Jones of Chester, MD; one sister, Ruth Ann Putman of Coolville, OH; one brother, Robert “Butch” Griffith of Pettyville, WV; one grandson, Parker L. Hill; three aunts and five nephews. In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by her special grandmother, Ethel Scott Reynolds. Funeral services will be held at the Kent Island United Methodist Church in Chester, MD on Thursday, March 6, 2003 at 11 AM. Friends and family may call at the Fellows, Helfenbein, & Newnam Funeral Home, P.A. in Chester, MD on Wednesday, March 5, 2003 between the hours of 2PM to 4 PM and 6 PM to 9 PM. Burial will be in Kingsley Cemetery, Chester, MD In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Gideon’s International Memorial Bible Plan, P.O.
