Allen Robert Baldwin

Allen Robert “Bob” Baldwin, aged 89, of Chestertown, MD, died on Friday, May 8, 2015, at Autumn Lakes Health Care in Chestertown, MD. He was the son of the late George Walker and Esther Hartman Baldwin. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Jean Silcox Baldwin; a son, Allen R. Baldwin, Jr. (Patti), of Norridgewock, ME; and two daughters, Frances Baldwin Shaffer (Joseph), of Herndon, PA, and Laura Baldwin-Stout (Bill) of Fort Collins, CO; his sister, Elizabeth Baldwin Booth of Stow, OH; his sister-in-law, Claudia Baldwin of Salisbury, MD; his son-in-law Mark McGrady of Franklin, TN; his twelve grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. His daughter Susan Baldwin McGrady of Hillsboro, IN; and three brothers, George, William and Hugh, predeceased him. Allen, was born June 2, 1925, in Chestertown, MD. As a youth and throughout his life, he was actively involved in the Boy Scouts of America. He earned the rank of Eagle Scout and later served as a Scout Master. Allen graduated from Chestertown High School in 1942. He enlisted in U. S. Navy and served in the South Pacific during WW II. In 1948, he graduated from Washington College with a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry. He and Jean were married that same year and moved to Lock Haven, PA. He worked as a research chemist for chemical companies throughout the East Coast in PA, MA, MD, and NC. He retired in 1992 when he and Jean moved back to Kent County. He enjoyed bridge, fishing, hunting, and raising roses. His greatest joy in life was spending time his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and his family. Allen was a lifetime member of the First United Methodist Church and a member of the Lions Club for over 40 years. A memorial graveside service will be held at Still Pond Cemetery at 11:00 a.m. on June 2, Allen’s 90th birthday. The family wishes to express a special thanks his wonderful caregivers and friends who helped him and Jean during his last years.
