Alicia Coro Hoffman

Alicia Coro Hoffman, 89, of Easton, Maryland, passed away peacefully on March 30, 2026. Born on March 28, 1937, in Havana, Cuba, Alicia was the daughter of the late Daniel and Alicia Camacho and lived a life defined by courage, resilience, and devotion to family and public service. In 1964, following the Cuban Revolution, Alicia and her family came to the United States as political refugees. They first settled in Tucson, Arizona, before making their way to the Washington, D.C. area, where she built an extraordinary life and career. She earned a Master of Education from the University of Maryland, College Park. Alicia devoted nearly four decades to education and government service with the U.S. Department of Education, where she held senior leadership positions. She served as Director of School Improvement Programs in the Office of Elementary and Secondary Education and as Deputy Assistant Secretary and Acting Assistant Secretary for Civil Rights. In 1992, she received the Senior Executive Service Presidential Rank Award, one of the highest honors in the U.S. Civil Service. After retiring in 1998, Alicia moved full time to Maryland’s Eastern Shore with her husband, Dr. Kenneth Hoffman. There, she remained active in civic and volunteer life, serving on the Maryland Appellate Judicial Nominating Commission, the Maryland Higher Education Commission, the University System of Maryland Board of Regents, and as President of the Dorchester Center for the Arts. She also loved to travel and found great joy in sharing the arts with her family, especially her grandchildren, whom she delighted in taking to the theater and exposing to culture and new experiences. Alicia cherished her family above all. She is survived by her daughters, Alicia Biciocchi (Robert) and Christina Kunowsky (Gregory), and her son, Dr. Carlos Coro (Maria Teresa), her sister Vilma Segal; her grandchildren, Gabriella Coro (Raul Alfaro), Carlos Coro, Alexa Hayslett (Logan), Jack Kunowsky, Grant Kunowsky, and Sophia Biciocchi; her stepson, Robert Hoffman (Kathleen); her step-grandchildren, Ryan Hoffman and Jessica Hoffman; and her great-grandsons, Charlie Alfaro-Coro and Owen Hayslett. She was predeceased by her second husband, Dr. Kenneth Hoffman; by Dr. Carlos J. Coro, the father of her children; and by her grandson, John Paul Biciocchi. A visitation will be held on Friday, April 10, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Easton, Maryland, followed by a Funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Sts.
