A. Elizabeth Lusby

Anne Elizabeth Lusby of Kennedyville, died January 12, 2006, in her home at Anngar Farm at the age of 101. Born on May 25, 1904 in Kennedyville, she was the daughter of the late, William R. and Annie C. Crow. Mrs. Lusby was a 1924 graduate of Chestertown High School. Her husband of 70 years, Edgar D. Lusby died in 1999. Two sisters, Adele Yeoman and M. Louise Lusby, and three brothers, William (Bill) R. Crow Jr., Ryland (Sam) C. Crow and Robert (Bob) T. Crow preceded her in death. Mrs. Lusby is survived by a daughter, Elizabeth (Betty) Anne Kolodny of Havre de Grace; a son E. Rankin Lusby, Crofton; a sister, Rebecca (Betty) Pyle of Wilmington, DE; four grandsons: Michael H. Stephens of Dumfries, Va., Mark A. Stephens of Newnan, Ga., Craig T. Stephens of Forest Hill, Md., Kyle R. Lusby, Los Angeles, Ca.; and one granddaughter, Kimberly C. Annecharico, Philadelphia, PA.; three great-granddaughters and two great-grandsons. In the publication “A History of Shrewsbury Parish Church,” Mrs. Lusby is noted as a “loyal and dedicated parishioner.” She started playing the organ for church services in 1920 when she was 16 years old and continued to serve as organist for more than 60 years. She also was an active member of the Parish Guild and Altar Guild. In addition, she was an assistant to her husband who served as church treasurer from 1935 to 1984. For many years, Mrs. Lusby was an active member of the Kennedyville Homemakers Club and the Kennedyville Farm Bureau Planning Group. In 1956, the Progressive Farmer, a farm magazine, awarded Mr. and Mrs. Edgar D. Lusby, the Master Farm Family Award for “notable accomplishments in farming, homemaking and citizenship.” The Master Farmer program is one of America’s oldest and longest running agricultural honors programs, dating back to 1927. It recognizes farmers and spouses for their successes in progressive business management, responsible use of resources and exemplary civic leadership. Family and friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, January 15 in Fellows, Helfenbein and Newnam Funeral Home, 370 West Cypress Street, Millington. Services will be held at 11 a.m. January 16, in the Shrewsbury Episcopal Church, Kennedyville. Interment will be in the church cemetery.
