Mary S. Huber

Mary Savage Huber of Chestertown, Maryland died on December 15, 2007 at Heron Point Chestertown. She was 85. She was born August 17, 1922, the daughter of Mary Lyttleton Savage and John Mulligan of Atlantic City, New Jersey In 1939 she graduated from Springside Academy, made her debut, and on November 23 married Joel Cook Huber Jr.. The young couple lived in Honolulu, Hawaii, New York City, and Portugal, before settling on Mt. Pleasant Road in Villanova, Pennsylvania, and later Muirfield Road in Gladwyne. After her marriage to Mr. Huber ended, Mrs. Huber married Thomas Willing Huber. Mary and Thomas Huber lived in Stone Harbor, NJ, St. Croix, in the US Virgin Islands, and Chestertown, Maryland. In Chestertown for the last thirty years the Hubers delighted in the restoration of their eighteenth-century house on Water Street, filled with antiques. In addition to her interest in antiques, especially Chinese export porcelain, Mrs. Huber enjoyed gardening, played bridge expertly, and mastered crossword puzzles. She was active in the Garden Club and in the Hospital Auxiliary. Those in Chestertown remember fondly her daily walks to Stam’s Drugs with a procession of Scotties—Mostie, Bugs, Mack, Katie, Caper, Thane and most recently her Tibetan Terrier, Tibby. Mary. Huber leaves four children, Electa Huber McFarland, Joel Cook Huber III, Anthony Savage Huber, and Thomas Willing Huber. Her grandchildren include James Willing Watson, a lawyer, David Rowland Watson, a businessman specializing in wind energy, Linn Pepper Watson, a pastry chef and bakery manager, Mary Huber Cooley, a pediatrician, and Amanda Huber, a graphic designer and Steve Rankin, a sales associate at Home Depot. Mrs. Huber’s great-grandchildren include Luke Willing Watson and Paul Henry Watson, Maya Watson and Alina Watson, and William Jasper Cooley. Services will be held privately. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that contributions be made to Chester River Home Care and Hospice 6602 Church Hill Road Chestertown, MD 21620 or to the Chestertown or Philadelphia charity of your choice.
