Margaret "June" Jewell

Margaret June “June” Jewell, of Centreville, MD, passed peacefully away at her home on November 23, 2023, she was 82 years old. She was born on January 19, 1941, to the late George and Margaret June (Benjamin) Lemay, in Baltimore, Maryland. She lived in Dundalk and attended St. Paul’s School for Girls with a concentration in secretarial skills. She was an only child, but was raised with Roy Wayne Shiflet, who was like a brother to her. Her family moved to the Bennett Point area of Queenstown, on the Wye River in the mid 1950’s. She met Joseph Martin Jewell at Holly’s Restaurant in Grasonville. Joe rowed his boat to her house a few days later to see her; her father tried to chase him away. Joe remained persistent and they courted and eventually eloped to Asbury United Methodist Church in Annapolis in 1962. The couple resided in Dundalk, where Joe worked at Bethlehem Steel. June was a homemaker and loving mother to two children, Kimberly Ann, born in 1963 and Jeffrey Martin, born in 1967. In 1973 they moved to their current home near Centreville. June managed a gift shop at her parent’s business in Queenstown, LeMay’s Welding. She worked as an office manager for Dr. Gary Sprouse on Kent Island. She worked in the ER at Memorial Hospital at Easton in admissions. She assisted Ranger Dave Davis at Wye Island NRMA. She was owner of the Red Hat Depot in the Amish Market in Easton. June was the President of the Pat Boone Fan Club and a Girl Scout leader in Dundalk. In Centreville, she was a Longaberger Consultant, member of the Red Hat Club, member of the Ladies Auxillary of the American Legion Jeff Davis Post 18, and a Master Gardener. She was preceded in death by her parents George and Margaret June (Benjamin) Lemay. June is survived by her loving husband of 61 years, Joseph, daughter Kimberly Hoxter (Keith), and son, Jeffrey Jewell (Natalie). She was a loving Grammy to two grandsons, Nathan Hoxter (Erin) and Nicholas Hoxter (Lauren) and two great-grandsons, Finn and Shane Hoxter. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held on Thursday, November 30, 2023, from 6:00pm-8:00pm, at Fellows Helfenbein and Newnam Funeral Home in Centreville, MD. Funeral service will be held on Friday, December 1, 2023, at 11:00am. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Memorial in Easton.
