Lorraine Beekman

Lorraine H. Beekman of Rock Hall passed away on Sunday, September 18th. Born April 16th, 1929, she was the daughter of Joseph Heussler and Margaret Broschardt Heussler. Lorraine is survived by her husband, H. Edward Beekman, Jr. and their children, son H. Edward Beekman , III of Basking Ridge, NJ, daughters Elizabeth Beekman of Sandy Hook, CT and Jane Beekman Ellis of West Chester, PA. She is also survived by her sister Margaret Rigney of Red Bank, NJ and 5 grandchildren. Growing up in Oradell NJ, Lorraine attended Dwight Morrow High School in Englewood, NJ, and graduated in class of 1948. She then entered Centenary College in Hackettstown, NJ. Upon graduation from college, Lorraine was employed by the Waldorf Astoria as an Administrative Assistant in the Banquette Department. She put her business career aside in 1953 to raise her family. She reentered the workforce after her children graduated High School working as Administrative Assistant to the Provost of Hofstra University. In the 1970’s she went to work for Columbia Pictures, becoming the Executive Assistant to the President and CEO. She then accompanied him to Warner Bros and eventually on to 20th Century Fox where he became the President and CEO. After retiring she worked part time as Personal Assistant to Mary Rockefeller, the former wife of NY State Governor Nelson Rockefeller. After living in Garden City on Long Island, New York for over 30 years, Lorraine and Ed retired to Rock Hall in 1997. Lorraine was a member of the Chester River Yacht and Country Club, Garden Club of Rock Hall, Women’s League of Washington College, Saint Paul’s Episcopal Church, Saint Martin’s Ministry, The Women's Literary Club of Chestertown and Sea Weeds. Services will be held at St Paul's Parish at 11am on Thursday, September 22nd. A grave site burial will follow at Wesley Chapel, after which refreshments will be served in the church hall.
