Kenneth John "Jack" Houtz

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Kenneth John “Jack” Houtz, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, who left us on December 4, 2024, at the age of 81. Jack was the devoted husband of Mary Houtz for 61 years, and a proud and loving father to Kenneth L. Houtz and his wife Pam, and Michelle Hornberger and her husband Harry. He was a cherished grandfather to Ashley Houtz, Katrina Halverson and her husband Ian, Chrissie Kessler and her husband Wyatt, Joshua Hornberger and his wife Megan, and Dylan Hornberger. Jack leaves behind five great-grandchildren who brought him immense joy and pride. He is also survived by numerous loving friends and family. Born on February 13, 1943, Jack graduated from Glen Burnie High School in 1961 before serving in the United States Air Force for four years. He went on to become a journeyman ironworker, a profession he took great pride in. Throughout his life, Jack was actively involved in his Catholic faith, earning the distinction of a 4th Degree Knight of Columbus and contributing to the Catholic community in many ways. Jack had a deep love for sports, especially the Baltimore Orioles and Ravens, and was a loyal fan who cheered passionately for his hometown teams. In addition to his love for sports, he was an avid outdoorsman. He was particularly proud of his record-setting 22-point buck shot in Queen Anne County, which remains a record among the Boone and Crockett Club. Jack enjoyed the simple pleasures in life, particularly a cold beer and a sweet bowl of pudding, but above all, he cherished the time spent with his family. His love for his family was unwavering, and his presence in their lives will be missed more than words can express. Jack’s legacy of love, devotion, and faith will continue to live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know him. His kindness, generosity, and sense of humor will never be forgotten. The family will receive visitors at the Fellows, Helfenbein, and Newnam Funeral Home of Centreville on Monday, December 16, 2024, from 12-2PM. A funeral service celebrating Jack’s life will be held at 2PM at the funeral home. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to Compass Hospice or Our Mother of Sorrows Catholic Church.
