Jeanne Gorman Tokarz

Marie Jeanne Gorman Tokarz of St. Michaels, MD, loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, died on Wednesday, October 11, 2006 at Memorial Hospital at Easton. She was 88. Born April 12, 1918 in Brooklyn, NY, she was the daughter of the late Charles A. and Marguerite Gorman. She graduated from St. Joseph’s College in Brooklyn, NY and was employed by IBM at the 1939 New York World’s Fair where she met John P. “Tokie” Tokarz. She and Tokie were married in Brooklyn, NY on August 15, 1941. For nearly forty years, they made their home in Kingsport, TN where she received her Masters Degree in Speech Pathology and Audiology from East Tennessee State University and worked as a speech therapist at the Palmer Center. After moving to St. Michaels in 1980, Mrs. Tokarz worked with the Talbot County Health Department as a speech therapist. She was an active member of Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Parish, St. Michaels Mission Church where she served as a Eucharistic Minister, a member of the St. Ann and Joachim Society and a bible study group. She was a member of ASHA, a past board member of CHOICES and a longtime volunteer for Talbot Hospice Foundation. Jeanne and Tokie were avid dancers and members of local dance clubs. Jeanne will be remembered as a gentle, caring lady who touched the lives of so many people through her profession and volunteer work. In addition to her husband of sixty-five years, John P. Tokarz, Mrs. Tokarz is survived by four children, The Honorable Joanne Wills of St. Michaels, MD and Ocean Reef, FL, Mary Dooher of Arlington, VA, Margie Delaney of Washington, D.C., and Dr. J. Patrick Tokarz of Alexandria, VA; nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Friends may call on Friday, October 13, 2006 from 7 to 9 PM at Fellows, Helfenbein and Newnam Funeral Home, P.A., Easton, MD. A Funeral Liturgy for Mrs. Tokarz will be celebrated on Saturday, October 14, 2006 at 10:00 AM at the St. Michaels Mission Church, St. Michaels Catholic Chapel. Burial will be at St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery, Cordova, MD.
