George Whitfield Richards III

George W. (Dick) Richards III of Oxford, MD, loving and beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, will be sorely missed by his wife, Bonnie, of 55 years. Dick died suddenly on Thursday, March 30, at the Gardens of Bayleigh Chase after a prolonged medical battle. Dick was deeply proud of his three sons, George W. (Whit) Richards IV, Los Angeles; David Forster Richards, Havertown, PA; and Andrew (Drew) Ross Richards, Ambler, PA. His seven grandchildren were the lights of his life, in order of age, Cameryn, Brenna, Lily, Lukas, Graham, Nathan and Blake, by whom he was called “Cappy.” Never having had a daughter, he especially enjoyed his three daughters-in-law, Kati, Janis and Andrea. He is also survived by his two sisters, Deborah Deschamps of Annapolis, MD, and Paula Tobin of Grasonville, MD. Dick lived outside of Philadelphia, PA, during his working years while he and Bonnie raised their family. Starting out in sales, Dick advanced to President of G. Whitfield Richards Co., Manayunk, PA, a firm that twenty years ago became RichardsApex Inc., and is still manufacturing metal working lubricants today. While living in PA, Dick was involved with the Radnor Boy Scout Troop #284, was on the boards of Northlight Community Center in Roxborough and Manayunk Development Corp. He also was President in 1986-87 of the Wire Association International in Madison, CT. Upon his retirement, Dick and Bonnie moved to “Someday Point” outside of Oxford, MD. Once settled in MD, Dick golfed at the Talbot Country Club, served on the Membership Committee of the Tred Avon Yacht Club, was Commodore in 2012 of the Poplar Islands Yacht Club, and was on the board of the Oxford Community Center. He was an avid outdoorsman, especially when it came to fishing, hunting, and boating, who loved to feed and watch birds as well as raise Koi in his pond. A gathering to celebrate Dick’s life will be held at the Tred Avon Yacht Club at 11:00 AM, Saturday, April 8.
