Don Carter

Don R. Carter, 71 of Chestertown, passed away on March 19, 2004, at his home after a short illness. Born in Baltimore, MD, he was the son of the late George E. and Gladys Bolgiano Carter. He grew up in Ferndale, MD and graduated from Glen Burnie High School. He participated in the Boy Scouts of America programs and particu1arly enjoyed the Sea Scouts. He joined the Navy Reserve, Washington DC from 1950 until 1952 when he was honorably discharged upon his enlistment in the United States Air Force serving in Germany from 1953 1956 in the Security Service on both the Darmstadt and Bremerhaven United States Military Bases. He received the National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal and Army Occupation Medal (Germany). He was employed by C & P Telephone for 35 years both as a splicer and lineman, retiring in 1992. He was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America. In his retirement he actively volunteered and supported the Eastern Shore Division of the American Heart Association from 1992 - 2003 and continued to pursue his interests in boating on the Chesapeake Bay and Chester River. Much of his time was spent enjoying the local wildlife and waterfowl surrounding his home. In addition to his wife of 6 years,Beverly S. Carter, Mr. Carter is survived by a son, Edward of Abilene, TX; a daughter, Anne Clapson (Adam) of Trappe; a step-daughter, Christine Flynn (Philip) of New Hope, PA; a step-daughter, Cindy Schleikcr of Levittown, PA; a step-son, Kevin Schleiker (Margaret) of Mickleton NJ; 2 grandsons and 5 grandaughters and mother-in-law, May Bintliff, Levittown, PA. also 3 brothers, Charles and Eugene (Gene) of Ferndale and Vernon (Butch) of Stevensville MD. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Dorothy Leight and Janice Jacobs and a brother, Curtis. A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held Saturday, March 27, 2004 at 2 p.m. at Fellows, Helfenbein and Newnam Funeral Home, Chestertown. A Memorial gathering will take place from 1-2 p.m. prior to the service.
