Crawford Galt

Crawford Reid Galt of Chestertown, MD died Sunday, June 3, 2007 at his home. He was 78. Mr. Galt was born in Brooklyn, NY on January 25, 1929, he was the son of the late, Crawford Reid Galt Sr. and Marion Barney Galt. He was a 1947 graduate of Ridgewood High School in Ridgewood, NJ and he then attended Colorado A & M in Ft. Collins, CO. He served in the United States Army in the Medical Corp. during the Korean War. In 1960 Mr. Galt moved to High Hopes Farm in Kent County where he raised dairy cows and grain farmed. He was a member of Fairlee Salem United Methodist Church, the Boy Scouts of America, the National Farmers Organization, the Kent County Farm Bureau, he was the director for the DFA as well as director for FSA offices, member of the B.P.O.E. Lodge #2474, Kent county 4-H, Chestertown Ruritans club, a director of the Kent Museum and a member of the American Legion Sgt. Preston Ashley Post 228. He enjoyed caning and woodworking. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one daughter, Cynthia Elaine Galt and his first wife, Elaine Blair Galt. Mr. Galt is survived by his wife, Mary L. Galt of Chestertown, MD; four sons, C. Blair Galt and wife, Carolyn, Allan Douglas Galt and wife, Ruth Anne, William Jeffrey Galt and wife, Vicky and John Reid Galt, all of Chestertown, MD; five grandchildren, Christopher Galt, Jennifer Galt, Cynthia Galt, Galerie Rousseau, and Nyland Galt and five stepchildren, Howard L. Donovan IV and wife, Maude of Smyrna, DE, Steven E. Donovan and wife, Valerie of Chestertown, MD, Betty J. Treadwell and husband, Michael of Gates, NC, Deanna K. Lanphear and husband, Greggory of Germantown, MD snd Michael P. Donovan of Chestertown, MD, and many step grandchildren and step great grandchildren. A memorial service will be held Saturday, June 23, 2007 at 12pm. at the Fellows, Helfenbein and Newnam Funeral Home, 130 Speer Rd., Chestertown, MD where friends may call one hour prior to the service.
