Charles Ellsworth Otis Jr

Charles E. Otis, lovingly known as "Buck," passed away peacefully on September 19th, 2024, at the age of 100. Born on June 24, 1924, Buck lived a long and fulfilling life marked by his love for family, country, and faith. On April 24, 1948, Buck married Marian Louise, the love of his life, and together they raised a beautiful family of eight children—four boys and four girls. He was predeceased by his wife Marian and a son, Charles E. Otis, III. As a devoted husband and father, Buck’s greatest pride was his family, which grew to include 14 grandchildren, and 16 great-grandchildren. His legacy of love, strength, and dedication lives on through them, a testament to the incredible impact he had on those around him. Buck was a proud Army veteran, serving with honor in the First Infantry Division, "The Big Red One," 26th Regiment, during World War II. His service to his country was a defining chapter of his life, and he carried the values of duty and honor with him throughout his years. Buck’s faith was his foundation. He was a devoted parishioner of Our Mother of Sorrows Catholic Church in Centreville, MD, where he attended mass regularly. His time, talent and treasures were evident in his involvement within the church community. As an active member of the Knights of Columbus, Buck achieved the distinguished honor of Fourth Degree Knight, faithfully serving the organization for 67 years. Buck also worked for 37 years with the Washington Redskins Utility, where he became a well-respected and valued member of the organization. Those who knew Buck will remember him as a man of great integrity and faith. His presence will be deeply missed, but his spirit lives on in the hearts of his family and friends. What an awesome legacy he leaves behind for all who were fortunate to have known him. As he had mentioned so many times, LOVE is the secret to a long and happy life. The viewing will be held at Fellows, Helfenbein, and Newnam Funeral Home 408, S. Liberty Street, Centreville, MD 21617 September 26th, 2 pm-4 pm & 6 pm-8 pm. A funeral mass in Buck’s honor will be held at Our Mother of Sorrows Catholic Church in Centreville, MD, on September 27th at 11:00 am reception to follow. On September 28th a burial with military honors will be at Ft. Lincoln Cemetery 3401 Bladensburg Rd. Brentwood MD 20722 at 1 pm. Please arrive between 12:30-12:45 pm to allow time for the motorcade to the grave side.
