Alexander C. Dick Jr.

Alexander Colclough Dick, Jr. of Chestertown Maryland died on March 29, 2024. He was 82 years of age. He was born in Wilmington, Delaware on July 24, 1941, the son of the late Dr. Alexander Dick, Sr., and Dorothy Quarles Dick and grew up in Chestertown, MD. He was educated at Phillips Exeter Academy, Class of 1959 and received a Bachelor of Arts in History from Washington College, Class of 1964. He was also on the Men’s Varsity Lacrosse Team at Washington College. After graduating, Alec joined the Peace Corps, and was stationed in the Philippines, where he met the love of his life, Margaret Sue Dick. Alec and Sue married on July 21, 1967, in Manila. After completing their years of service, the couple returned home and settled in Baltimore, where Mr. Dick taught mathematics at the Garrison Forest School. Additionally, Mr. Dick received a Master’s in Mathematics and Education from the University of Maryland. In 1972, they moved to Syosset, New York on Long Island, where they lived and raised their family. Mr. Dick taught High School Mathematics at Friends Academy of Locust Valley, NY. He loved his students and devoted his career to teaching them both in the classroom and on the field. Mr. Dick was an athlete his entire life from lacrosse, to running, skiing, tennis and cycling. Cycling became his athletic passion for decades. He was a member of the Huntington Bike Club where he clocked thousands of miles, volunteered for countless events and toured various parts of the country with his biking friends. Additionally, he was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church of Roslyn, NY. After retirement, he returned to Chestertown with his wife where he continued to bike, joined Emmanuel Epispocal Church and generally enjoyed small town life with new and old friends of all ages and walks of life. In addition to his wife, Sue, he is survived by his daughter: Emily Q. Bose of Baltimore, Maryland and his son: David C. Dick of San Francisco, California, his twin brother: Macdonald Dick of Ann Arbor, Michigan, his sister: Nancy Dick of Chestertown, Maryland along with his beloved grandsons: Xandy, Coco, Mac, Finn, and Patrick. Services will be held on Saturday, April 13 at 11 AM at Emmanuel episcopal Church in Chestertown, Maryland, and in lieu of flowers contributions may be made to: Baltimore Youth Kinetic Energy at www.bykecollective.com.
