William Roger Hopkins Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

William Roger Hopkins was born on June 22, 1944 to Florabelle and William Hopkins. To family and friends he was known as Junie, Buck, Peebody, Ogie, Seymour, Daddy, and Pop-Pop. A man of many names and he answered to all of them. On Wednesday, June 28, 2022, Roger departed this life at Compass Regional Hospice in Centreville, MD, to go live with the Lord. Roger attended Sharptown Elementary School in Rock Hall, MD from grades 1-6. He entered Henry Highland Garnett School for 7-12 grade. He graduated in 1962. After graduating he worked several jobs. He joined Local Union #199 in Wilmington, DE where he worked for over 20 years. He started working for Dr. Virginia and Thomas Collier and retired from that job after 30 years. Roger married Joyce and from that marriage he had three children, Ronnell (Turtle), Evetta (Vetta), and Dwayne (Danny) Hopkins. Roger had a lot of hobbies which included his first love fishing, cutting his grass, planting flowers, doing car shows, and watching soap operas. Roger is survived by his wife of 57 years this December, Joyce Hopkins; three darling children, Ronnell, Evetta, and Dwayne Hopkins; eight grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren; his mother, Florabelle Perkins; two sisters, Patricia Alexander and Linda Hopkins; one brother, Thomas Hopkins; three sisters-in-law, Elinore Waits, Elmyra Black, and Janice Hopkins; three brothers-in-law, Willie Waits, Roland Brown, and Sylvester Sewell; one aunt, Loretta Freeman; two uncles, Melvin and Ernest Hicks; a special daughter-in-law, Dana Hopkins; as well as a host of cousins and friends. Roger has an extended family: Dominic, Dwan, and Rockeem Harris, Amirah Hopkins and Mya Hopkins, and Shae Hynson. Special Friends: Olythea Hunley, Calvin and Judy Hynson, Dianne and Ike Carroll, Charlotte Potts, James (Top) Garner, James (Chick) Little, William Towson, Buddy Bramble, Steve Cullis, Peggy Brown, our great neighbors, Laurie and Keith Kreider and family, and last but not least, the entire Collier family. Services will be held on Sunday, July 3 at 12:00 pm at Fellows, Helfenbein, and Newnam Funeral Home in Chestertown. A visitation will be held two hours prior from 10:00 am - 12:00 pm at the funeral home. Interment to follow at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Fairlee.
