Montgomery Harris, Jr., of Easton, MD, formerly of Philadelphia, died at his home on Wednesday, September 25, 2002. He was 78. Born in Philadelphia, PA, September 10, 1924, he was the son of the late Montgomery and Ruth Judd Harris. After graduating from Kent School in Kent, CT, he served twenty-eight months during World War II in the Pacific Theater of Operations with the U. S. Merchant Marine. Following his release from duty, he spent his entire business career in Philadelphia as an insurance broker. A longtime layman in the Episcopal Church, he served on the Vestry of St. Paul’s Church in Chestnut Hill. He was active in the United Fund and other eleemosynary institutions. A former President and 40-year Board member of the Seamen’s Church Institute, he was also a Board member of the Moore College of Art in Philadelphia. Following his retirement in the late 1980’s, he moved from Chestnut Hill to Easton, MD where he has served as a Vestryman at All Faith Chapel in Tunis Mills, MD and a Board Member and active volunteer of the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum. An avid sailor and world traveler, he was a member of the Chesapeake Bay Yacht Club. Mr. Harris is survived by his wife, the former Rosanna Chanler whom he married in New York on May 23, 1953; three sons, Montgomery Harris, III of Wayne, PA, John W. Harris of Scituate, MA and Richard S. Harris of Littleton, CO. and six grandchildren. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, September 28th at 11:30 A. M. at the All Faith Chapel, Tunis Mills, MD. Burial will be at a later date at the Church of Messiah Cemetery, Gwynedd, PA. Memorial donations may be made to the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum, P.O.
