March 15, 1951 - September 30, 2021
Judy Ernestine Ferrell Low of Gaithersburg, Maryland, passed away on September 30, 2021, after a brave and courageous fight with cancer. She was born March 15, 1951 to the late Willie H. Ferrell and the late Frances E. Davis Ferrell, both of Harrisonburg, Virginia. Judy grew up in Mt. Airy, Howard County, MD. After graduating from Glenelg High School, she earned her bachelor’s degree at Frostburg State College (now University), and her Master’s in Education from Hood College. Judy taught English for more than 36 years in the Montgomery County public school system, primarily at Quince Orchard High School. Judy was not just a teacher to her students, but a compassionate advocate for and dedicated mentor to them. Even after retiring in 2013 she maintained relationships with many of her former students, and regularly received notes of gratitude for the impact she had on their lives. Judy is greatly cherished and sadly missed by her surviving sister Karen “Kay” Flowers of Bel Air, MD, sister and brother-in-law Linda and Dennis Wilder of Church Hill, MD, and brother and sister-in-law William “Bill” and Lecia Ferrell, of Broadway, VA. Also surviving are nephews and nieces Craig (Gabrielle) Flowers, Chris (Natalie) Flowers, Kathy (Matthew) Ash, Matthew (Tracy) Wilder, Stephanie (Brian) Bugg, and Brandon Delawder, together with 9 great-nieces and nephews, all of whom dearly love and miss their Aunt Judy. Visitation for Judy will be held Monday, October 4th from 12:00 pm-2:00 pm, followed by a service at 2:00 pm located at Fellows, Helfenbein & Newnam Funeral Home, 408 S Liberty Street Centreville, MD 21617. Burial will take place following the service at Chesterfield Cemetery, next door to the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Salvation Army, Montgomery Hospice of Rockville, MD, or Compass Hospice of Centreville, MD.
