Denise Teresa Tontarski

October 6, 1950 - December 18, 2021

Denise T. Tontarski died on December 18, 2021, after a long battle with cancer from complications of COVID-19. She was 71 years old. She was born in Philadelphia on October 6, 1950, the daughter of Joseph and Rosalie Pritz. She grew up in Rosalyn, PA where she graduated from Abington High School with the class of 1968. She married Thomas Tontarski on February 6, 1971. The couple relocated to Marlton, NJ and had two beautiful children, which she raised before continuing her education, receiving her AA degree in Social Work. She and her husband maintained a group home for children with behavioral issues for over a decade. Then, in 2000, they moved to Chestertown, where she was a managing partner of a sailing school in Rock Hall, MD. She was a board member of the Rock Hall Yacht Club Sailing School, a board member of the Burlington County YMCA, an active volunteer in local Girl Scouts, a board member of KART, and the President of JC Women in Evesham, NJ. She was a member of the board of trustees for the Unitarian Universalists of the Chester River. She was awarded Volunteer of the Year from United Way and received accolades from the Rock Hall Yacht Club Sailing School and KART. She also received a Jaycee Key Woman Award. She is survived by her loving husband, Tom Tontarski of New Jersey; two children, Monica Trojnar and Jeffrey Tontarski (Colleen) of Delaware; two siblings, John Pritz and Jeanne Ferry of Pennsylvania; and four grandchildren, Cooper, Grady, Zachary, and Ryan. Services will be available to view virtually.
