Shirley Joan Evans Wilson, 71, of Chestertown MD, passed into eternal life on Friday, July 23, 2010 at her home.
Shirley, born June 24, 1939 in Berlin, MD was the oldest daughter of George H. Evans, Sr. and the late, Daphne (Deanie) Evans.
Shirley is survived and cherished by her devoted husband of 25 years, Mike Wilson, as well as her children, Cynthia Davis, Paul Davis and Sandra Perry, all of Salisbury, MD and her stepchildren, Wendy (Paul) Leatherman of Myersville, MD, Steven Wilson of Ruthsburg, MD and Marcus (Lisa) Wilson of McHenry, MD. Shirley was a loving grandmother to 11 grandchildren and a great-grandmother to one great-grandson. She was especially proud of her five generations portrait!
Shirley was a devoted, special friend and sister to Carol (George) Perdue of Parsonsburg, MD, Linda Sue Cinder Brown of Salisbury, MD, Sharon (Rod) Snapp of Helen, GA and preceded in death by one brother, George Henry (Hank) Evans, Jr. She is also survived by many close and loving nieces and nephews.
Shirley worked at FAM&M Insurance Company in Chestertown where she developed many wonderful friendships over 25 years. She was a devoted wife and beloved mother who will be remembered for her tireless work for the American Cancer Society's Relay For Life and her passion for serving others. Shirley loved to travel with her husband and because of her kind, gentle and fun-loving spirit, she made friends wherever she went. Shirley's love of cooking and the dishes she created are legendary! Her recipes will live on in the kitchens of the many family and friends who called her for them. She was a lover of animals and nature and found great joy in her hummingbirds.
Shirley's remarkable life and legacy will always be held in the hearts of all those whose lives she undoubtedly touched. The family wishes to express their gratitude to the Hospice team, especially Mary Lynn, Kim and Bob, who demonstrated great spirit, compassion and understanding as they helped Shirley, her family and her friends through this difficult transition.
In addition to flowers, the family wishes to honor Shirley's life with donations to Chester River Home Care & Hospice, 6602 Church Hill Rd., Suite 300, Chestertown, MD 21620.
