Obituary:
Anton Tracy Buckheit, “Andy”, died Saturday, June 5, 2010 at Bay State Medical Center in Springfield, Mass.
Son of the late James Edward and Verenita Buckheit, Andy was born Sept. 13, 1955 in Kent and Queen Anne’s Hospital in Chestertown, Md. He grew up in Rock Hall, Md., and graduated from Kent County High School in 1973.
Andy was known for his musical talent. He and his best childhood friend, Rick Larrimore, began forming bands and performing before they were old enough to drive themselves to their “gigs”. Following high school, Andy pursued a professional music career as a guitarist, singer, and songwriter playing rock, heavy metal, and blues. He lived and performed throughout the Northeast. His band, Northern Star, was nominated for a Grammy in 1985 for the song “Back to Earth.” Following the breakup of Northern Star several years later, Andy settled in Springfield.
He is survived by his daughter, Nicole Lasky of Chicago, Ill.; his brothers, James Buckheit of Los Angeles; Tim Buckheit of Great Falls, Mont.; his sister, Christie Buckheit Grabis of Chestertown; his maternal aunt, Rose Marie Metcalf of Chestertown; and his companion, Annie Gass of Springfield.
Andy will be remembered for his tremendous talent, his passion for music, his sense of humor, and his gentle heart.
