Tom Helfenbein with Howard H. Hubbard bought out the Lane Funeral Home on Oct 23, 1973. Tom did the first of many additions to the Chester funeral home by making living quarters on the new second floor. A few years later Mr. Hubbard died and Tom became the sole proprietor of the then "Tom Helfenbein Funeral Home, P.A.". The Chester property was added on to many times over the last 30 years. In 1992 Kirk and Tom Helfenbein built a new funeral home in Chestertown MD. In 1996 Tom Helfenbein joined with Gary Fellows, and Mike Newnam and created the Fellows Helfenbein & Newnam Funeral Home.
